ALBERTA STATEHOOD MOVEMENT CODE OF CONDUCT:
Inspired by the Spirit of 1776
We, the supporters of the Alberta Statehood Movement, believing in the natural rights of man, the just principles of liberty, and the right of self-determination, do hereby commit ourselves to the following code of conduct, in the spirit of those American colonists who acted with resolve, dignity, and moral purpose during the founding of the United States.
1. Conduct with Honor
We shall carry ourselves with dignity in public and private.
We shall speak truthfully, avoid slander, and correct misinformation without malice.
We shall not return insult for insult, but rather respond with clarity, calmness, and principle.
2. Peaceful and Lawful Action
We are committed to peaceful and legal advocacy for Alberta’s entry into the Union of States.
We shall not promote violence, insurrection, or civil disorder.
We shall work within the framework of law, just as the American patriots first sought redress under their own colonial charters and British law.
3. Personal Responsibility and Civic Virtue
We shall act as free and responsible citizens, prepared to educate ourselves and others about the duties of self-government.
Like the minutemen of old, we shall be prepared to defend ideas with words, facts, and reason—not anger.
We shall model the kind of citizenship we wish to see in a reunified North America.
4. Unity in Purpose, Diversity in Thought
We shall welcome respectful disagreement and the free exchange of ideas among our members and critics alike.
We shall not tolerate bigotry, racial animosity, or hatred of any kind, recognizing that liberty belongs to all people, not a chosen few.
We affirm the value of honest debate and the right of all to be heard, as practiced in the colonial assemblies and committees of correspondence.
5. Respect for Ancestry and Posterity
We honor the sacrifices of those who came before us—Indigenous, settler, immigrant—and seek to build a future worthy of them.
We commit ourselves to act not merely for our own benefit, but for the generations yet unborn who may one day call this land home.
6. Opposition to Tyranny and Corruption
As the American colonists resisted arbitrary power, we too shall speak out against unjust governance, systemic corruption, and the erosion of rights—whether local, provincial, or federal.
We shall not be seduced by factionalism or personality cults, but will keep our eye on the principle of just representation and constitutional government.
7. Commitment to Truth and Education
We shall ground our advocacy in historical truth, economic data, and constitutional knowledge.
We shall study the American Founding, Canadian Confederation, and Indigenous self-governance, recognizing that wisdom requires looking in many directions.
We affirm these principles not only as a political position but as a moral stance. We do not seek power, but liberty. We do not seek division, but justice. We do not seek conflict, but peace through honourable means.
